Robert M. O'Neil is Professor of Higher Education at the University of California, Berkeley. He is the author of numerous books on the history of higher education, including The Ivory Tower and the Marketplace: American Universities in the Twentieth Century and The Great Transformation: American Higher Education, 1636-1836.
