The Early Years

John Robert Parker Ravenscroft was born in Heswall, Cheshire, on 30 August 1939. His father was a doctor and his mother was a nurse. Peel was a bright and curious child, and he developed a passion for music at an early age. He began playing the piano and guitar as a teenager, and he soon started his own band.

After graduating from high school, Peel attended the University of Liverpool. He studied English literature, but he spent most of his time listening to music and hanging out with other music fans.
