What is a Tin Whistle?

A tin whistle is a type of fipple flute. It's made of a metal tube with six finger holes and a mouthpiece. The mouthpiece is shaped like a beak, and you blow into it to create a sound. Tin whistles are typically played in the key of D, but they can also be found in other keys.

How to Hold the Tin Whistle

To hold the tin whistle, place your left hand over the top three finger holes and your right hand over the bottom three finger holes. Your thumbs should be on the back of the whistle, and your fingers should be curled over the holes.

How to Blow into the Tin Whistle

To blow into the tin whistle, place your lips on the mouthpiece and blow gently. You should feel the air flowing across your lips and into the whistle. If you're not getting any sound, try blowing harder or adjusting the angle of your lips.

How to Play Your First Notes

To play your first notes, start by covering the top three finger holes with your left hand. Then, blow into the whistle and slowly uncover the finger holes one at a time. You should hear the pitch of the whistle change as you uncover each hole.
