John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis were two of the most iconic figures of the 20th century. Their glamorous wedding in 1953 was a global event, and their lives together were filled with both triumph and tragedy. JFK's assassination in 1963 was a national tragedy, and Jackie's subsequent marriage to Aristotle Onassis was a controversial affair. But through it all, the Kennedys remained one of the most famous and fascinating couples in history.
American Prince, American Queen tells the epic story of the Kennedys from their early days in politics to their tragic deaths. With exclusive interviews, never-before-seen photos, and meticulous research, this book provides a fascinating and intimate look at one of the most famous couples in history.
The Early Years
John F. Kennedy was born in Brookline, Massachusetts, on May 29, 1917. He was the second of nine children born to Joseph P. Kennedy Sr., a wealthy businessman and politician, and Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy, the daughter of former Boston Mayor John F. Fitzgerald.
Jacqueline Bouvier was born in Southampton, New York, on July 28, 1929. She was the only child of John Vernou Bouvier III, a stockbroker, and Janet Lee Bouvier, a socialite.
The Kennedys and the Bouviers were both prominent families in American society, and their children were raised in a world of privilege and opportunity. John attended Harvard University, where he was a star athlete and a member of the exclusive Porcellian Club. Jackie attended Vassar College, where she was a popular and well-liked student.
The Wedding
John and Jackie met in 1951 at a dinner party in Washington, D.C. They were immediately attracted to each other, and they began dating soon after. In 1953, they announced their engagement, and they were married on September 12, 1953, at St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, Italy.
The wedding was a global event, and it was attended by some of the most famous and powerful people in the world. John and Jackie were the perfect couple: he was handsome and charismatic, and she was beautiful and elegant. They seemed to have everything: wealth, power, and love.
The Camelot Years
The years after the wedding were known as the "Camelot years." John was elected to the Senate in 1952, and he quickly became one of the most popular politicians in the country. In 1960, he was elected President of the United States, and he and Jackie moved into the White House.
The Camelot years were a time of great hope and optimism. John was a young and energetic leader, and he inspired a generation of Americans with his vision of a better future. Jackie was a glamorous and beloved First Lady, and she helped to make the White House a symbol of American style and elegance.
The Tragedy
But the Camelot years came to an abrupt end on November 22, 1963, when John was assassinated in Dallas, Texas. Jackie was with him at the time, and she witnessed his death. She was devastated by his loss, and she never fully recovered from it.
After John's death, Jackie continued to live in the public eye. She married Aristotle Onassis in 1968, but their marriage was unhappy. She died of cancer in 1994, at the age of 64.
The Legacy
John and Jackie Kennedy were two of the most iconic figures of the 20th century. Their story is one of love, loss, tragedy, and hope. They were a symbol of the American dream, and their legacy continues to inspire people today.
American Prince, American Queen is the definitive account of the Kennedys and their enduring legacy. With exclusive interviews, never-before-seen photos, and meticulous research, this book provides a fascinating and intimate look at one of the most famous couples in history.
